Thursday, August 16

Afternoon. Check in at Avalanche Ranch in the Crystal River Valley at the foot of Mount Sopris, outside Carbondale, Colorado. Retreat staff will meet you upon arrival and show you to your cabin.

(The ranch is located less than an hour’s drive from the Aspen and Eagle-Vail airports, and is a 4-hour drive from Denver International Airport.)

3:00 p.m. Orientation meeting with your host, Elinor Fish, followed by a short introductory trail run.

6:00 p.m. Welcome wine and cheese reception followed by dinner at the Ranch House. (Note: all lunches and dinners are professional caterered and feature fresh, healthy ingredients, with vegetarian and gluten/dairy-free options available upon request).

8:00 p.m. Keynote presentation by Elinor Fish
 
Friday, August 17
6:30 a.m. Light breakfast served in the Ranch House.

7:15 a.m. Depart for group trail run in the White River National Forest. We will have two to three run leaders to accommdate different pace groups so you can run at your own pace. You have the choice of running 4 to 12 miles, with rest stops along the way for eating, drinking and soaking up the views. We will practice efficient running form and proper trail-running technique,providing individual analysis and feedback.
12:00 p.m. Buffet lunch served in the Ranch House.hot springs1:00 p.m. Presentation on essential training principles such as: how to increase endurance, improve speed or train for a race, followed by Q&A session.

2:00-5:00 p.m. Free time to enjoy the Avalanche Ranch hot springs, relax on the deck or have a massage (must book in advance).

5:00-6:00 p.m. Outdoor yoga class on the lawn (weather permitting) focusing on gently opening joints, loosening muscles and mindful breathing (yoga mats will be provided or you can bring your own).

6:00 p.m. Dinner served in the Ranch House.

8:00 p.m. Camp fire and s’mores under the stars. Presentation by guest speaker TBA.

Saturday, August 18
6:30 a.m. Light breakfast served in Ranch House.
7:15 a.m. Depart for group trail run in the White River National Forest. We will have two to three red rock trailrun leaders to accommdate different pace groups so you can run at your own pace. You have the choice of running 4 to 12 miles, with rest stops along the way for eating, drinking and soaking up the views. Focus of this run will be on pacing, even energy expenditure and navigating technical terrain. Choose one of three pace groups to decide how far and fast you go.
12:00 p.m. Buffet lunch served in the Ranch House.
1:00 p.m. Presentation on sports nutrition: what to eat before, during and after running. Q&A session.
2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Free time to enjoy the Avalanche Ranch hot springs, relax on the deck or have a massage (must book in advance).
5:00-6:00 p.m. Outdoor yoga class on the lawn (weather permitting) focusing on gently opening joints, loosening muscles and mindful breathing (yoga mats will be provided or you can bring your own).
6:00 p.m. Dinner in the Dining Hall, followed by a presentation and discussion about training for a race and avoiding injury.8:00 p.m. Awards ceremony.
DAY 4
6:30 a.m. Light breakfast served in the Ranch House.
7:15 a.m. Depart for group trail run in the White River National Forest. Choose one of three pace groups to decide how far and fast you go.
11:30 a.m. Buffet lunch served in the Ranch House.
12:30 p.m. Check out and departures.

    I would love to do this!!!! We’re in Europe till 2013, but please keep me posted on your retreats. I will actually send this info to my husband, maybe he can “surprise” me with this as a birthday gift.

    Do you offer military discounts? We’re military and he’s in Afghanistan as I write this.
